THE CHURCH HOUSE WIDECOMBE-IN-THE-MOOR

Built around 1537. It is a grade 2* listed building, owned by the National Trust, currently leased to the village as a community hall.

It is a fine example of a 16th century Church house and has had many different uses over the years. Ale House, Alms house, school are just a few examples.

It is a two storey building. Upstairs it has a vaulted ceiling and enjoys views over the Churchyard and the hills beyond.

Downstairs it has the original beams and a stone floor. There is also access to a garden at the rear.

The unique character of the building provides a special atmosphere for events such as private parties, exhibitions, wedding receptions, charity fund raisers etc.

It is also open for viewing to NT members on Thursdays from May to October (see the Artisan Craft Market for times) and on Saturdays when the Village Produce Market is running (see the Village Market for times).

Some more details about this historic building can be found here.
