Widecombe Fair always takes place on the second Tuesday in September.
There are car parks and a park and ride bus service operating from 9.00 am when the traffic one way system comes into operation. No traffic is allowed to pass through the village between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm in order to keep the public safe.
The day starts at 9.00 am when judging of horses, sheep etc begins. There are Traders, displays and events happening all through the day. Food and drink is available from outlets on the Widecombe Fair field and around the village itself.
On the Fair field there are two show rings, the main ring will include horse and pony judging, pony displays, a grand parade and terrier racing. The jubilee ring will include children’s activities, the dog show, dog agility, Morris dancing and bale tossing in the evening.
There is a huge marquee with a Bar and live Folk Music going on throughout the day until late. Also within the field are marquees displaying local craft and produce which is judged and another with local craft traders selling their work.
One of the highlights of the day is the Uncle Tom Cobley race. Runners race from the top of Widecombe Hill down to the Fairfield through bracken, gorse and mire – an event for the fit ones!.
Every year Widecombe Fair is proud to support local charities from profits made on the day. We also promote a different Charity every year by giving them a free pitch for the day and a generous donation.
Lots to see and do and a great day out in the Dartmoor countryside. COME AND JOIN US IN SEPTEMBER.
