Please note that the Sports Group AGM is on 25th July 2024 7.00pm in the Church House.

DID YOU KNOW

There is a tarmac tennis court in Widecombe available for use all year round.

Not only is this a fantastic facility to have but it is also floodlit (at no extra charge) which means it can be used up until 10pm every day.

The court has lines for various sports including tennis, netball, hockey & five a side football.

There are goal posts which can be used for Hockey & Football and also netball posts.

There is a storage shed for equipment with access to keys and lights etc. and there are changing facilities and toilets available.

The sports group area also has adjacent free parking making it a convenient place to either make use of the facility or plan your activity from for example a run or cycle ride.

There is also a small pavilion (with electricity) for shelter or to provide refreshments from.

For people running a business such as a Bed & Breakfast or Holiday cottage you can buy a family membership which entitles your guests to use the court while staying with you.

How does it work?

Once you are signed up as a member you receive a door code which lets you into the storage shed where the keys are kept to unlock the court, toilets and pavilion. When you finish with them you simply return the keys to their hooks and if using the court please pay your fee into the envelopes which are available in the shed and post them through the letterbox slit on the interior door of the shed. If you are a new member one of the committee can arrange to meet you at the facility to show you round, please ask.

Current clubs

Tennis

Every Tuesday evening (weather permitting) there is a tennis club open to all members 16+ to come along and play each other. Depending on numbers we will usually play doubles of four games so everyone gets to serve a game. After each set of four we swap around so everyone gets to play through the evening. There is also a tennis night on a Thursday open to all ages. A £1.00 fee is paid by all those attending (£2.00 for non members). If you would like more information on this please contact Di Cameron on 621218

  • Tuesday Adult Tennis (16+) 6.30 – 9.00pm
  • Thursday Tennis 6.30 – 9.00pm

Tug of War Club

The tug of war club train Tuesday & Thursday evenings 7.00 – 9.00pm on an area adjacent to the tennis court. New members are welcome and if you like more details contact Mark Hutchins 01364 621294.

We are always open to ideas about different sports being offered and new clubs running regular sessions but as with all things it relies on someone to run it – if you are that person please let us know.
