HAROLD ARTHUR REYNOLDS

1890 – 1963

Harold was born in Totnes in 1890 to Mary Elizabeth Reynolds, Mary was a household servant at Southcombe, Widecombe in the 1890’s.

Mary married Harry Bray in 1894 and the 1901 Census records the family living at New Park, Widecombe. By 1911, they had moved to Lower Dunstone and Harold had employment as a horseman.

In 1916, Harold married Florrie Louisa Hewings.

Harold was “called to the Colours” in September 1916 and was posted to the 10th Battalion Devonshire Regiment which, by the time of his joining, were fighting in Salonika. Harold would have fought in the two Battles of Petit Couronne, then moved with the Battalion into Bulgaria in September 1918. The 10th Battalion ended the War stationed in Bucharest where Harold remained until his demobilisation in 1919.

When he was back in Widecombe, Harold and Florrie had a family of two daughters Gwendoline and Phyllis.

Harold died in Newton Abbot in 1963 aged 73.
